The reality is, and this is going to sound cliche, life is not a string of sunny days. As soon as we realize and accept that pain, too, is part of our journey, the quicker we can spring up again from our set backs. So don't fear, walk into the dark woods. Trust that you will find your path and emerge new, but with your soul intact. Have faith in your ability to survive and to renew; strive to learn and change.

In Lesser's book she quotes Goethe:

"And so long as you haven't experienced
this: to die and so to grow,
you are only a troubled guest
on the dark earth."

I have committed these words to memory, because I believe they describe the essence of transition. Until you have experienced such pain, or such loss, or faced seemingly insurmountable tribulations, you have not passed your personal threshold yet. But when you have, and you find your way back to light and to life, back to feeling and to happiness, you quietly applaud yourself, for you are permanently changed, eternally wiser, and thank the universe for every clear breath you take. You have transitioned.

Thank you for your beautiful post, yoga gangstar Ms. Liza.

[...] The Maven is a primary example of someone who, with the wisdom of aging, realizes that no matter how much wealth he acquired, no matter how many A-list individuals he knew and mingled with, none of it mattered if it wasn’t furthering the betterment of the greater good of humanity and the planet. He exemplified that the greatest sense of fulfillment is listening to someone who ignites and excites your interest, connecting to their message, and letting it land so you can assess if you or anyone you know that can help them take their life’s vision to the next step. But here is the catch, as a connector you do it for the pure pleasure of knowing you’ve extended the invisible thread to another, not for any reward or praise.
I had to break the rules a little bit and log in to Facebook to let all my friends know I would be home...but otherwise so far so good.

Had a mini-conversation with the dental assistant in Spanish yesterday. And she was so cute....she tried to speak English back to me. It's amazing how attitudes change when people see you are trying ;)

BRAVO Brittany! You're rising to the occasion and what I love about it is that your unplugging from one network (that sucks a lot of time, energy, life and focus out of you) and plugging into another network (millions of Spanish speakers!).

These shifts out of our comfort zone don't have to be as extravagantly large as swinging on trapeez. In fact, the ones that seem so subtle are often the ones we ignore for a reason : )

Tonight my challenge is to make a dinner entree made of entirely raw foods for the first time.... I'll let you know how that one goes.

Till then, keep posting on the blog to share your experiences. We appreciate them!

I love this! What a great idea! So often we get stuck in our comfort zone...it's just so.....comfy in there :) I just moved here, and am trying to learn Spanish. Yet I find myself scared and embarassed to practice in public because I don't really know what I am saying yet....and I sound like an idiot....and people correct me constantly. SO, instead of letting this get to me, I am going to let of my fear and my ego, and practice Spanish in PUBLIC for the next 7 days.

I also have realized that I spend way too much time Facebook stalking people. Seriously, what a waste of time. For the next 7 days, I am not going to get on Facebook. At all. Crazy, I know.

Thanks so much for sending this out Liza :) I love challenges and getting out of my comfort zone!

This is really in line with a project I'm working on right now combing art, yoga, and movement to somatically recognize, digest, and release the overwhelm of being disconnected from nature. Thank you for the affirmation of having such a program catalyze.
